Weather advisories issued in Waupaca, Portage counties

According to the National Weather Service, area temperatures are expected to drop Wednesday night to a low around 5 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, with wind chill between 15 and 25 degrees below zero.

West/northwest wind of 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. are also forecast.

Thursday’s forecast indicates continued frigid conditions, with wind chill between 15 and 25 degrees below zero. The cold weather advisory remains in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday,

Due to the anticipated cold temperatures and wind chill on Thursday, Dec. 12, the Stevens Point Warming Shelter, located at 1300 Main St., will remain open until 9 a.m. Thursday. They normally close at 6:15 a.m.

Also, Stevens Point Transit will allow people to ride the city buses for free all day, to stay out of the freezing weather
