Weyauwega-Fremont’s sophomore sensation Collin Hamm wins state

In the Division 3 157-pound bracket, sophomore Collin Hamm entered the WIAA state wrestling tournament in Madison as the top seed with a 56-2 record. He showed everyone why he was the favorite in his weight class.

Hamm started strong, pinning Otto Anglemyer of Amherst in his first match. In the next round, he beat Waylon Hargrove of Aquinas with a 21-6 technical fall.

In the first place match on Feb. 28, Hamm faced junior Gavin Tritz of Assumption/Pacelli, who came in as a sixth seed after recording a 44-6 season,
In period one, Hamm took the lead with a takedown at the 0:59, but Tritz scored on an escape a few seconds later.

Hamm took control of the match in period two with two takedowns and an escape. Tritz managed to score on an escape.

In period three, Hamm continued to be aggressive as he scored on a takedown at 1:35. Tritz had his strongest period of the match with two takedowns and an escape. Still, it was not enough as Hamm sealed the win with an escape that made the final score 14-9 as he won his first state championship.
