WIAA approves Name, Image and Likeness

Posted

Wisconsin high school athletes are now allowed to profit from their name, image and likeness by entering into advertising and brand deals. Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association decided on Friday, April 25.

WIAA member schools approved an NIL provision after a 293-108 vote at their annual meeting in Stevens Point. The ruling for the NIL changes will take effect in May. It allows high school athletes to enter into NIL deals, so long as they don’t wear their team uniform, use school or WIAA logos in an advertisement, and are not allowed to promote alcohol, tobacco or weapons.

This ruling puts the number of states allowing student-athletes into NIL deals to over 40.
