Winchester Academy will present an evening of dinner, dancing and jazz Saturday, March 26, at the Waupaca Ale House on State Highway 54.
A buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with the Lawrence University Jazz Band performing at 7 p.m.
The group is led by Fred Sturm, composer and director of jazz and improv at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music.
The buffet dinner will include ribs and chicken, a variety of sides, and a build-your-own sundae bar. A silent auction will include some antique pieces of parlor furniture and decor, artwork, services, entertainment, personal items and varied collections.
Reservations for the event are available at the Waupaca Chamber of Commerce or by calling 715-256-1638. They can also be made at any Winchester Academy program. The price of $50 per person includes the dinner and music, plus a $28 tax-deductible gift to the Winchester Academy.
Winchester Academy has brought more than 500 free educational programs to the Waupaca area community since 1991. These programs are open to the public. There is no membership or entrance fee.
Although the work is carried out by an active volunteer board of governors, Winchester Academy incurs significant costs for around 25 speakers per year. Costs include speakers' travel and dinners, as well as fees and occasional overnight accommodations. Annual costs exceed $10,000.
Those costs are met through several sources. Board members provide financial support, as do individual audience members and sponsors of programs. Still others make annual pledges of support.
Finally, fundraising events such as the jazz dinner-dance and auction offer entertainment and a fun evening to the community.
well beyond the Winchester Academy audiences.
