An up-and-down season for the Waupaca boys’ basketball team continues as the Comets head into their North Eastern Conference matchup with Wrightstown on a season-high three-game winning streak.
Waupaca improved to 6-7 on the season on Jan. 18 with a nonconference win over Waupaca and a pair of conference wins. The Comets handed Wautoma a 69-46 loss, overcoming a 20-point deficit against Luxemburg-Casco on Jan. 17 to post a 70-62 victory over the Spartans and opened the week on Jan. 14 with a 61-51 win over Fox Valley Lutheran.

Waupaca outscored the Hornets 35-20 in the first half and 34-26 over the final 18 minutes.
Aaron Wolff led the Comets with 30 points, and Westen Lauritzen added 17. Taylor Krueger led Wautoma with 20 points.

Bryce Piesler came off the bench and had the hot hand early for the Spartans, as his five three-pointers helped the visitors build a 29-9 lead in the first half.
Luxemburg-Casco took a 38-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Comets outscored the Spartans 46-24 over the final 18 minutes.
Waupaca trailed for almost all of the first half and didn’t have the lead again until Wolff’s three-pointer with 2:20 to go in the game gave the Comets the lead for good at 59-58.
Waupaca then outscored the Spartans 11-4 the rest of the way.
Lauritzen and Wolff accounted for 50 of the Comets’ 70 points, with 26 and 24, respectively. Austin Adamczak added 13 points.
Piesler led the Spartans with 20 points.

The Comets outscored the Foxes 32-25 in the first half and added to their lead with a 29-26 advantage over the final 18 minutes.
Wolff and Ethan Harms led Waupaca with 17 points each, and Lauritzen and Adamczak added 14 and 11, respectively. FVL’s Caleb Dahlke led all players with 18 points.
