Manawa finally wrestles at home
By Greg Seubert
A schedule that sent the Manawa wrestling team away for the first month of the season meant the Wolves’ fans had to hit the road to watch coach Brad Johnson’s squad compete.
That ended Jan. 7 with the annual Manawa Invitational, which also included teams from Adams-Friendship, Antigo, Clintonville/Marion, Elcho, Montello, Oconto, Pittsville, Reedsburg, Tri-County, Winneconne and Xavier.
Antigo won the invitational with 201 points, followed by Pittsville (189.5), Reedsburg (173.5), Winneconne (88.5), Manawa (81.5), Adams-Friendship (81), Oconto (64.5), Elcho (60), Tri-County (50), Clintonville/Marion (41), Xavier (38) and Montello (32).
Manawa wrestlers that placed include Garrett Bristol, third at 138 pounds; Zach Johnson, third at 170; Jordan Kons, third at 195; Zach Kreklow, fourth at 182; Trent Zabel, fourth at 220; Eli Yoder, sixth at 152; Ben Beyer, sixth at 160; and Devon Truax, sixth at 285.
The Wolves competes at a quadrangular Jan. 10 in Lena and will host Amherst at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, for a Central Wisconsin Conference dual meet. Manawa will then head to an invitational Saturday, Jan. 14, in North Fond du Lac.
