Mike Mazemke, who has been serving as the Waupaca County register of deeds since 2007, will not seek re-election.

He has given given his endorsement to Deputy Register of Deeds Jeremy Schoenike.

Schoenike, filed his Declaration of Candidacy papers as of April 10, and has worked alongside Mazemke since 2021.

“Jeremy amazes me,” said Mazemke. “He has been doing a great job in the office. He serves as the point person on the land records system and the fraud alert system and has been a great asset to our office.”

“My goal is to keep the office running like he has,” Schoenike said. “We have been planning this transition for some time now and I feel very well prepared to continue a level of service that our constituents have come to expect of us. That is number one on my list.”

The biggest asset Schoenike believes he will bring to the position is consistency.

“This would be a natural move for me and it just makes sense,” he said. “Starting over with someone from the outside would be a tough transition to make.”

Schoenike holds a paralegal degree from Fox Valley Technical College and has worked for the state public defender’s office in Appleton and in the Waupaca County clerk of courts Office.

He lives in the town of Wyoming, with his wife, Becky, and their two sons Jeter, 9, and Jack, 7.

In his spare time he enjoys family time, hunting, fishing and the many activities that their children are involved in.

Mazemke’s term will end on January 6, 2025.

In his retirement, he plans to enjoy spending more time with grandchildren, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

“I will miss working with citizens of Waupaca County,” he said.
