Engle, Margaret

Margaret “Peg” Marie (Riley) Engle, of Stevens Point, WI, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 4:24 PM, at the age of 75.

Peg was surrounded by her loving family as she passed on from this life to her eternal life in Heaven. There, she was greeted and welcomed by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, along with all her loved ones that have gone before her. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her during her life here on earth. But knowing that her eternal life in Heaven will be free of sickness and disease will be a comfort to us all.

Peg was born November 17, 1948, in Stevens Point, WI; daughter of the late Ronald and Mary Ellen (Helbach) Riley. She attended elementary school at the neighborhood one-room Badger School on Highway 54 and County D. She went on to Waupaca Grade School and Waupaca High School, where she graduated in 1966. Peg later furthered her education at Stevens Point Mid State Technical College and received her CNA license.

Peg married her childhood sweetheart, Vernon “Vern” Engle on December 13, 1966. Together they brought two precious sons into this world, Scott Anthony and Timothy Michael. In addition to her everyday caring for her sons, her husband, and her home, she often worked outside the home to help support her family. Her willingness to work outside the home put her husband through college, helped pay the bills, and bought those necessary extra items and gifts for Christmas and special family birthdays.

Peg was a very loving individual and always had a kind word to say about everyone she knew. All who knew and loved Peg could always depend on her when they needed someone with an understanding heart and comforting ear to talk to. She just always seemed to know and say the right things with the love she had in her heart. Peg’s most enjoyable times in life were being able to be with and take care of any or all of her 7 grandchildren as she watched them grow from infants to adults. Equally enjoyable, if not more, was being able to be with and take care of her great-granddaughter, Addy. She truly loved all of her family and friends and would do anything she could for them, without question.

Peg is survived by her loving husband, Vern; her two sons, Scott (Barbara) Engle and Timothy (Kimberly) Engle; her 7 grandchildren, Ryan (Chelsea), Colton (Desirae), Kaiden, TJ, Tyler (Danielle), Nathan, and Emily; and her great-granddaughter, Addy. She is further survived by her brother, Thomas (Kari) Riley of Waupaca; her sister, Jane Voelker of Weyauwega; five brothers-in-law, Michael Bloedorn of Blaine, Richard (Fran) Engle of Neenah, David (Pam) Engle of Waupaca, Glen (Mary Jo) Haase of Rochester, MN, and Carol (Steven) Buck of Waupaca; two sisters-in-law, Violet Engle Strike-Verbeek of Minneapolis, MN; and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Mary Ellen; her brother, Ronald Riley Jr.; her sister, Karen Bloedorn; an infant sister, Mary Ellen; her in-laws, Vernon and Elizabeth (Betty) Engle, Robert Engle, Sue Ann (Glen) Haase, Alfred Engle, Gary Strike, and Wayne Voelker.

Peg’s family would like to thank Dr. Terri Hahn and her staff for the wonderful care given to her and the compassion shown to her family.

For those wishing to express their sympathy, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Peg’s honor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin (13195 West Hampton Avenue; Butler, WI 53007).
