A Wautoma woman was killed in a head-on crash Saturday, Oct. 23, on State Highway 22/54 east of Military Road.
Danielle Belanger, 21, and Jose Ortegon, 25, Wautoma, were taken by ambulance to Riverside Medical Center, then flown to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah.
Both were critically injured. Belanger succumbed to her massive internal injuries several hours after the 2:30 p.m. collision.
According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department, Belanger and Ortegon were passengers in a car driven by Christopher Royer, 21, West Allis.
Royer was eastbound on State 22/54 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and hit a van driven by Milton Barnhart, 75, of Waupaca. Barnhart was taken by ambulance to the New London Family Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The accident remains under investigation. Police say alcohol may have played a part in the crash.
