Area runners place at State

Seven runners from Waupaca, Amherst, New London and Hortonville high schools laced up their running shoes Saturday, Oct. 30, for the State Cross Country Meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Waupaca junior Zach Wheeler turned in the highest finish among local competitors by placing 31st in the boys’ Division 2 race with a time of 17:16. He placed 38th last year in 17:20.

Amherst senior Jared Lutz placed 47th in 17:38 in the boys’ Division 3 race, while two other seniors, New London’s Michael Heise and Hortonville’s Tony Cass, placed 78th and 91st, respectively, in the boys’ Division 1 race with times of 17:11 and 17:16.

Clintonville sophomore Samantha Hohn led area girls by placing 57th in the girls’ Division 2 race in 16:16. Two New London juniors – Macy Egan and Annalise Schroeder – placed 89th and 91st, respectively, in the girls’ Division 2 race with times of 15:57 and 15:58.

Boys’ and girls’ team champions were Hartland Arrowhead and Wausau East in Division 1; Shorewood and Dodgeville/Mineral Point in Division 2; and Kenosha St. Joseph and Oshkosh Lourdes in Division 3.
