Veteran’s Day program

The New London Veteran’s Day event has been relocated from the middle school to the high school this year, in an effort to accommodate the growing crowd of attendees.

Says Transition Principal for grade nine, Dr. Andrew Jones, “The middle school gymnasium was filled to capacity each year. Our high school gymnasium will allow more students and the public to attend this important ceremony. We need to honor our veteran’s every chance we get.”

A school bus will pick up Veterans at the New London VFW and escort them to high school for the event. A small reception with snacks will be provided to the veterans prior to the program.

This free program starts at 1 p.m., and the public should enter through the main doors of the high school and find the gymnasium to the right.

The VFW color guard will present the colors. NLHS choir will perform two patriotic songs, and Dave Neumann will review the history of Veteran’s Day. An Armed Forces Medley will follow, performed by the choir and band. Guest Speaker Col. Pete Seaholm will then address the crowd.

A trumpet solo of “Taps” will honor those lost in our wars and the VFW members will retire the colors at close of the ceremony.
