Comets pick up two wins at Foxfire

The Waupaca Comet boys’ golf team opened Eastern Valley Conference play Monday, April 18, by knocking off Berlin and Clintonville and falling to Appleton Xavier.

The Comets also opened the season Friday, April 15, with a 12th-place finish at the Wautoma Invitational.

WAUPACA – Waupaca’s Ryan Fuss turned in the third-lowest score of the match with a 39 at Foxfire Golf Club.

Chris Kesler shot a 43 for Waupaca, while Tyler Donaldson shot a 46, Caleb Bloom a 51 and Parker Kantos a 60.

Xavier’s Connor Pietrzak had the low round with a 36.

Wautoma Invitational

WAUTOMA – Donaldson shot an 83 for Waupaca that included a 42 on the front nine and a 41 on the back nine. Other scores for Waupaca were Kesler, 90 (45, 45); Fuss, 96 (47, 49); and Jordan Williams, 103 (44, 59).

The Comets shot a 372. Neenah won the 18-team invitational at the Waushara Country Club with a 315.

“It was a tough day to play with the wind and cold, but overall, I was pleased with the scores,” coach Tom Noltner said. “We have only had one practice at a course prior to playing in this tournament, so these scores were pretty good considering the conditions and the amount of practice we have had.

“We can and will improve as a team as the season progresses,” he added. “It was good to get out and play. The players had fun and battled the cold and wind like everyone else.”
