Lady Bulldogs clinch second in Bay

With a chance for a three way conference championship on the line Monday, the Bulldogs had to beat Hortonville. The Bulldogs were able to come by with a close 3-2 win over the Polar Bears.

However Oconto Falls had to beat Luxemburg-Casco for a 3 way tie for first to happen but the Spartans were victorious claiming the Bay Conference title by themselves.

The Bulldogs got on the board right away in the first as Niki Euhardy blasted a solo home run to lead 1-0.

Hortonville tied the game up in the second as Jessica Warns batted in Heather Dorn. In the bottom of the second Kelsey Fassbender walked followed by an Emily Steffanus single.

Lexy Zaddack had the big hit smashing an RBI double down the left field line. After the hit Hortonville pitcher Heather Dorn was replaced by lefty, Sydney Gorges.

Still 3-1 in the fifth inning Hortonville pulled the game within one when Sarah Carew drove in Heather Dorn on a single. It was a defensive battle the rest of the way as the Bulldogs came out on top. Emily Gorges picked up the win for the Bulldogs scattering six hits, two runs, one earned and struck out two.

Heather Dorn took the loss for Hortonville going one and 2/3 of an inning giving up all three runs and giving up four hits. Sydney Gorges pitched the rest of the innings giving up four hits and no runs. She struck out two.

Emily Steffanus went a perfect 3×3 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs. Niki Euhardy went 2×3 with a home run. Six different players had Hortonville’s six hits. With the win the Bulldogs finish second in the Bay Conference at 13-3 and end the regular season at 17-4. The Bulldogs earned a number one seed in the WIAA tournament and will have a bye the first round. The Bulldogs will host the Chilton/Little Chute winner Tuesday, May 31.
