New London sets record at Road America

New London’s high mileage car team won two first place finishes at the 2011 Fox Valley Technical College high mileage vehicle contest in early May.

The modified car took 1st overall with 729 miles per gallon. The stock car took 1st in its class with 400.7 miles per gallon. The team set yet another track record a week later at Road America with a top run of 702.38mpg coming in first with their modified car. The team also came away victorious with their stock car, averaging 429.12mpg.

Team members included Dalton Johnson, Shawn Schumacher, Tony Knuth, Matt Holton, and Dustin Cutler. The team worked hard both on the track and in the pits to reach this prestigious achievement. Instructor Gerold Bohm pushed the team hard. At the beginning of the year, the team had to build the car from ground up and also solicit sponsorships.

The entire team was grateful for their generous sponsors. “If it wasn’t for them we would never have been able to accomplish this task,” said one team member. “This is Mr. Bohm’s last year and after many years of competition he wishes to thank all the students and sponsors who have made this a successful program.”
