RMC offers father-son class

Riverside Medical Center will offer its father and son puberty class from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Maasch Education Center.

The focus of the class is on helping boys navigate both the physical and emotional changes of adolescence.

“Puberty typically isn’t a popular topic for parents and sons and can sometimes be awkward to discuss,” said Dean Sondrol, a physical therapist at RMC, who teaches the class. “So we make it easy and offer a fun, relaxed environment with straight talk about boys’ changing bodies.”

Called “Especially for Boys: What’s Happening to Me?,” the class is intended for boys ages 9 – 12.

It covers changes that boys go through during puberty, including acne, body hair, body odor, voice deepening, and emotional and physical changes.

“In addition to offering factual information, the class is also designed to help open the lines of communication between boys and their parents so there can be a continuing conversation,” Sondrol said. “

The fee for the class is $20 per father and son pair. To register, call 715-258-1119.
