I-S Chamber holds annual meeting

Molly Vold was re-elected as treasurer of the Iola-Scandinavia Area Chamber of Commerce at the group’s annual meeting Nov. 10.

Current I-S Chamber officers are President Greg Loescher, Vice President Mark Hurt, Secretary Brenda Mazemke and Treasurer Molly Vold.

Chamber President Greg Loescher announced that new I-S area brochure-maps can be picked up at the Iola Old Car Show (IOCS) Office, now located at 160 North Chet Krause Dr., Iola. The brochure-map is also available to area visitors in the chamber’s kiosk, located near the Vidar of Iola carving. He noted that only chamber members are allowed to put flyers in the kiosk, and everything must be approved by Mary Schwartz at the car show office.

There will be some changes to the Thursday Night on Main (TNOM) schedule. According to Loescher, the chamber has decided to hold the event on six consecutive weeks starting with the Thursday before the 2012 Iola Old Car Show. Also, there will probably be only one musical act per night.

Loescher announced that the chamber has submitted a Vidar of Iola trademark request. He was wearing a prototype t-shirt.

The $8,500 cost of the new street banners has been paid with I-S Chamber funds. Businesses are being asked to donate to the banner fund.

The I-S High School Art Club has agreed to paint holiday scenes on business windows again this year as a fund raiser. The chamber agreed that each business should consider a $25 donation per window to the Art Club.

Each chamber business is invited to bring a wrapped box for the chamber’s float in the Dec. 3 Lioness Christmas Parade. It was suggested that the box should represent your business or have your business name on it.

The Chamber’s Holiday Celebration will be on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the IOCS Activity Building. Nominations can be submitted for Outstanding Person and Outstanding Business of the Year awards.

The Badger State Games ski jumping will not be held during Iola’s Winter Carnival in February 2012. All other events, including ski jumping on Sunday, will remain the same.

There will not be a community ice skating rink this year because of the drawdown of Lake Iola.

There has been a request for the chamber to consider having monthly meetings at different times and locations to accommodate those business owners that are unable to make the scheduled 7 a.m. meetings. Jones Publishing has volunteered to have the first “Business After 5” meeting in March.

The 2010 chamber events chairpersons are: Mary Schwartz-Holiday Celebration and Person/Business of the Year Award – Mary Schwartz; TNOM Entertainment – Tammie Jo Berg; 50/50 Raffle at TNOM – Jane Myhra; 4th of July Fireworks – Mark Sether.
