Berg named Queen of the Snows

Paige Berg has been named Queen of the Snows for the Iola Winter Carnival, which is set for Feb. 4-5.

The 2012 Winter Carnival Princesses are Abby Wiersma, Natalie Oligney and Amanda Aanstad.

“Iola hosts many different festivities and Winter Carnival has always been my favorite,” Berg said. “There’s ski jumping out at the wonderful ski hill, ice sculpture carving and a hearty Norwegian Lutefisk Supper. The Winter Carnival celebrates the importance of the arts, tradition, heritage, competition and community.”

“When I was a freshman, I carved my first ice sculpture, smelled my first whiff of the “fishy-jello” lutefisk and came to realize that this is why I love small towns, especially the community of Iola that I’m fortunate enough to be a part of,” she added.

Berg is a senior at Iola-Scandinavia High School. Her extracurricular activities include volleyball, choir, Student Council, cross country, band, Art Crew, basketball, musicals, softball, track and field, and four local jobs.

Other honors and achievements include summer basketball captain, High School Choir president and most improved female runner on the cross country team. Berg has earned more than 12 medals at the district solo-ensemble festival and at least seven state-level medals, won a Friend of the Library ribbon on a self portrait at the Waupaca Arts Festival and competed in Math League.

She is the daughter of Tammie Jo and Bill Berg, of Iola.
