IOLA – One inning made all the difference for the Iola-Scandinavia baseball team.
The Thunderbirds scored seven unearned runs Monday, May 7, in a 7-2 Central Wisconsin 8 Conference win over Stevens Point Pacelli.
I-S also fell to Amherst 11-7 Tuesday, May 1.

STEVENS POINT – Zach Gauerke struck out 10 batters to pick up the win on the mound. The T-Birds’ nine hits included doubles from D.J. Loken and Hunter Gruenwald.
The T-Birds improved to 5-4 in CWC-8 play and 6-5 overall.
Amherst 11, I-S 7
IOLA – Chris Zblewski had four hits including a home run and drove in three runs in the Falcons’ win over the T-Birds.
I-S scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Amherst came back with five runs in the second and three more in the third to take an 8-1 lead. The T-Birds cut the lead to 8-5 with Gruenwald’s grand slam in the third, but Amherst added single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh.
Gruenwald had three of the T-Birds six hits and drove in five runs.
The T-Birds visited Bonduel Tuesday, May 8, and will host Manawa at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, May 10) before heading to Wild Rose Saturday, May 12, for a nonconference game with the Wildcats.
