Beckert, Don E.

Don E. Beckert, 71, Dickinson, died, Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his home. Don’s memorial service was at 2 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2012, at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Cal Oraw officiating. Inurnment will take place at the Killdeer Cemetery, Killdeer. Visitation was on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation continued one hour prior to services at the church. Donald E. Beckert was born September 3, 1941, at New London, Wisc., the son of August E. and Alice L. (DeYoung) Beckert. He was raised and educated in New London, and Killdeer. In 1955 Don’s family moved to the Beckert Ranch in the Killdeer area. He graduated from Killdeer High School.

Don married Carol Selle on July 6, 1959, in Dickinson. He served honorably in the United States Army from October 8, 1959 to February 2, 1962. Upon his discharge he returned home and went to work for the North Dakota Highway Department from 1969 to 1976. He then became self employed in the oil business from 1977 to the time of his death. He was a lifetime member of the BPOE 1137 Elks, a member of the American Legion, St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, and Pheasants Forever. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and collector of Indian artifacts. Don is survived by his wife, Carol, their two sons, Brad (Janel) Beckert, Westminster, Colo; and Allan (Liz) Beckert, Bismarck; two grandchildren, Hunter and Alaina Beckert, one brother, Duane (Cynthia) Beckert, Jamestown; one sister, Georgette Beckert, Killdeer; and numerous wonderful in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Alice Beckert. Ladbury Funeral Service assisted with arrangements. www.ladbury
