Schlender, Lester L.

Lester L. Schlender, age 97, of Marion, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville.

Lester was born on December 19, 1915 in the Township of Grant, Shawano County, the son of the late Rudolph and Mathilda (Kreklow) Schlender. At the age of 7, he moved with his family to a farm in the Township of Dupont, Waupaca County. On January 20, 1938, Lester was united in marriage to Dora Krueger in the Township of Dupont. The couple farmed the Schlender family farm in the Township of Dupont. While farming, Lester also was employed at the Dupont Cheese Factory as a truck driver for 5 years, and was a volunteer fireman with the Dupont Fire Department. Upon retirement from farming, the couple moved to Marion where Lester worked at maintenance at the Marion Rec. Center. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion. His hobbies included ice fishing, deer hunting and gardening.

Survivors include: his wife of almost 75 years, Dora; his son, Dennis “Pee Wee” Schlender, Marion; 6 foster daughters; his grandchildren, Dawn Schlender, Marion and Dan Schlender, DeKalb, IL; his step grandchildren: Cindy (Ken) Dean, Clintonville; Linda (Brian) Dudzik, Marion and Chris Ebert, Gresham; 9 step great grandchildren; and 5 step great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Jean Fritz, Caroline and her family, Mike (Linda) Fritz and Kristy (George) Crum, Caroline and Curt (Cheryl) Fritz, Appleton; a special nephew, Chet (Carol) Schlender, Appleton and his family, Tracy Laux, Appleton and Heidi (Tim) Barrington, Kaukauna; his brothers-in-law, Raymond Peterson, Iola and Vernon Krueger, Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Ella Sigmund and Ruth Peterson and his brothers, Walter as a child and Julius, Ervin, Ted, Andrew, Oscar, and Art Schlender.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marion with the Rev. Brad Dokken officiating. Interment will be in the Roseland Cemetery, Township of Dupont, Waupaca County. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service.
