Jaynes-Moses, Mildred G.

Mildred G. Jaynes-Moses passed away on January 12th, 2013 at 5:30 PM at her home at Park Vista in Waupaca, WI.

She was born Mildred Grace Ehrich, oldest daughter of seven children born to Harry A. Ehrich and May L. (Rohl) Ehrich. Mildred was born on Dec. 13th, 1919 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She graduated from Wilson High School, Cherokee, Iowa in 1937. Mildred graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing, Kankakee, Ill. in 1941. She joined the US Army Nurse Corp in 1943 and served with the 297th General Hospital in Stourport, England, and was discharged as a first lieutenant in 1945. On August 4th, 1945 in Kiddermiester, England she married Orville (Ted) F. Jaynes (US Army First Special Services Forces) from Attica, Indiana. They lived in Indiana and Iowa before moving to Wisconsin in December of 1958. Mildred continued her nursing career after they moved from Indiana to Iowa working at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa and Buena Vista Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa.

In 1958 Mildred and Ted moved to Wisconsin from Iowa purchasing a 120 acre dairy farm near Nelsonville, WI where they lived and farmed for the next 20 years. Mildred was hired as the Director of Nursing at the Portage County Home in Stevens Point, WI shortly after arriving in WI. She left that position and began working at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in 1964 as a clinical nurse and was promoted to Nursing Administrator in July 1964. Ted passed away in December of 1979. She remained on the farm for a year and then built a home in Plover, WI. She retired from the Veterans Home in January of 1983.

Mildred married John R. Moses on January 19, 1985 in Plover, WI. She moved from Plover, WI to John’s home in Madison, WI. John and Mildred raised and sold orchids and traveled in their retirement. In 2007 John and Mildred moved to Coventry Village in Madison (senior retirement community). Mildred was a much loved resident, neighbor and friend there. For health reasons Mildred moved to Park Vista in Waupaca in August of 2012 to be near her daughter.

Mildred was a member of The Springs Methodist Church, Plover, WI. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary for 48 years and was a member of the Purple Heart Auxiliary. During her nursing career she was a member of the WI Nurses Association, serving as president of the “Heart of WI” chapter for 3 years. She served on the WI state wide study for nursing committee in 1982. She was a committee member for the Federal Veterans Administration revision of nursing home regulations in Washington DC. She was also a committee member that formed policies and procedures for Nursing Assistants for Medicare facilities in the state of Wisconsin. In addition to being a Registered Nurse, she was one of the first group to be licensed as a nursing home administrator. Mildred was one of the first five RN’s to receive her certification for excellence in the practice of Geriatric Nursing from the American Nurses Association.

Mildred was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Orville (Ted) Jaynes in Dec. 1979; husband, John R. Moses in Dec. 2007; brothers, Ronald Ehrich, Glenn Ehrich, and Lawrence Ehrich; and sister, Jean Ehrich. She is survived by: her brother, Floyd E. (Betty) Ehrich of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters, Arlene (Dick) Deichmann of Venice, FL; Lois (Robert) Montgomery of Glendale, AZ; son, Robert (Mary) Jaynes of Bowling Green, KY; daughter, Mary (Mike) Tenant of Waupaca, WI; six grandchildren: Sean Tenant of Petaluma, CA; Matthew (Cindy) Jaynes of Omaha, NE; Mark (Marissa) Jaynes of Madisonville, KY; Luke (Abi) Jaynes of Janesville, WI; Brian (Sara) Tenant of Plover, WI; and Katie Tenant (Jeremy O’Brien) of Amherst, WI; four great grandchildren: James Tenant, Anthony (AJ) O’Brien, Zoey O’Brien, and Tucker Jaynes. She is further survived by sixteen nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews; step-son, Dr. John (Tina) Moses of Madison, WI; step-daughters, Margit Moses of Madison, WI; Ann Moses of Oregon, WI; Mary (Gary Brown) Moses of Portage, WI; Barbara Moses of Baraboo, WI; and Sue (Thom) Straus of Middleton, WI; ten step-grandchildren: Krista, Kayla, Lisa, Tyler, Nora, Adriane, Elijah, Noah, Emily, and Ian; one step great-grandchild, Soraya.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19th at First United Methodist Church in Waupaca, WI. Rev. Cathy Weigand will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, January 18th at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI and again from 10:00 am until time of service on Saturday at the church.
