Plunkett withdraws from race

Casey Plunkett has withdrawn his name from the election for Dayton town chairman.Town Chairman Chris Klein is now running unopposed.

Plunkett was nominated for the office at the Dayton town caucus on Tuesday, Jan. 15. He had been a vocal critic of Klein’s plans to provide parking near a Spencer Lake boat landing after the town of Dayton cut down trees along the right-of-way of the road leading to the boat landing.

“Last Monday, I started a new position, with a new company,” Plunkett told the County Post regarding his decision to withdraw. “After traveling 6,000 miles last week, I concluded that I could not meet the time commitment and demands of both my new job and town chairman iff I were even elected.”

Plunkett said he plans to remain actively engaged in town matters and meetings and remains open to running for office in the future.

“I respect Chris Klein’s responsiveness and time investment as town chairman,” Plunkett said.

Three candidates WERE NOMINATED AT THE CAUCUS for the two seats on the town board.

Lee Schroeder will be on the April 2 ballot, along with incumbents Bruce Golding and Glen Newsome.
