New London girls win regional title

The undefeated, top-ranked Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team out-hustled, out-shot, and out-classed both the Waupaca Comets and the Mosinee Indians during Regional play last weekend while cruising to another Regional title.

The Lady Bulldogs applied their signature, suffocating pressure on defense to create turnovers and then pushed the tempo in transition to score early and often. New London players worked hard for every rebound, hit the floor for every loose ball, and stayed patient on offense as they methodically dismantled their opponents.

Against Waupaca, the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-4 lead after one quarter and led by a score of 25-12 at halftime.

New London outscored Waupaca 14-5 in the third quarter, while both teams scored 17 points in the final frame. The Lady Bulldogs walked away with a 56-34 win.

New London 57, Mosinee 23

The Lady Bulldogs hosted the Mosinee Indians in the Regional Championship game. New London led 14-4 after one quarter and 24-11 at halftime.

New London outscored Mosinee 17-2 in the third quarter and 16-10 in the final frame to earn a 57-23 victory, capturing the Regional title for the third straight season.

Brenna Heise led New London with 13 points, while Mickey Roland added 12. Megan Schlieve tallied 10 points, Cambria Fitzgerald netted six, and Gretl Steingraber, Lexi Roland and Amber Pethke all scored four. Alycia Halvorson and Caitlin Schmidt both scored two.

The Lady Bulldogs will face Hortonville in a Sectional semi-final matchup on Thursday, March 7. The game will be held in Kimberly. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
