Comets rally for win

Emily Barlow came off of the bench to score a game-high 15 points as Waupaca overcame deficits after the first, second and third quarters to post a 39-36 Eastern Valley Conference girls’ basketball win over Clintonville Jan. 16.

Clintonville took an 11-7 lead into the second quarter, had a 19-18 lead at halftime and outscored the Comets 11-10 in the third quarter before Waupaca rallied with an 11-6 scoring advantage over the final eight minutes.

Waupaca didn’t lead in the game until Macie Davidson’s basket with 2:15 remaining in the game gave the Comets a 36-35 lead. The Truckers never regained the lead down the stretch.

Morgan Smith also finished in double figures for Waupaca with 11 points, while Taylor Carpenter and Allison Johnson led Clintonville with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Comets hosted Appleton Xavier Jan. 21 and will head to Little Chute Friday, Jan. 24, for a 7:15 p.m. conference rematch with the Mustangs.
