Truckers split with Xavier, top Bonduel

A rough start proved costly for the Trucker varsity baseball team as they lost to Eastern Valley Conference rival Xavier on Tuesday, April 8.

The Hawks created havoc for the Truckers in the first inning, tallying seven runs on five walks and two Clintonville errors.

The Truckers went on to score five runs while holding the Hawks to just four more runs the rest of the game, but the visiting team couldn’t overcome Xavier’s fast start.

Nick Hogen pitched for Clintonville and took the loss. Chase Linden earned a win for Xavier.

Turner Doornink powered the Trucker offense, going 3×4 with a double and two RBI.

Brody Stolzman led Xavier, going 2×2 on the day.

Clintonville 15, Xavier 1

A 10-run first inning capped by Turner Doornink’s 3-run home run propelled the Truckers to a 15-1 victory over the Hawks.

Xavier’s lone run came in the second inning, while Clintonville added four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to win the game by the 10-run rule after five innings.

Clintonville pounded out eight hits, while Xavier had just two hits. The Trucker defense committed two errors.

Turner Doornink earned the win on the mound, striking out nine batters. Matt Ferris took the loss for Xavier. Ferris failed to make it out of the first inning and struggled to throw strikes. An array of six walks, a hit batsman, and four hits by Trucker batters contributed to Clintonville’s huge first inning.

Jaden Doornink led the Clintonville offense, going 2×2 with two doubles and 3 RBI. Turner Doornink was 1×1 with a 3-run home run. Nick Hogen had a double and 3 RBI, Damon Lorge had 2 RBI and Vincent Doberstein had 2 RBI.

Clintonville 8, Bonduel 1

Clintonville led 4-1 after four innings and added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to seal the victory over the Bears.

Jaden Doornink pitched 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief to earn the win. The young Trucker defense backed him up, committing just one error.

The offense cranked out 15 hits, while Bonduel earned just three hits in the game. Bonduel’s defense committed two errors.

Turner Doornink led the offense, going 4×4 with a two-run home run. Parker Mindel was 3×5 with two doubles and 2 RBI. Aaron Morse was 2×2, Jaden Doornink was 2×4, Zac Riemer was 2×4, and Nick Hogen had 2 RBI.

The Truckers are scheduled to host Waupaca at W.A. Olen Field at Don Jirschele Stadium on Tuesday, April 22. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m.
