Avoid illegal fireworks on July 4

July 4 is around the corner and Waupaca County Post readers should be aware of the dangers of illegal fireworks.

If you are not familiar with Wisconsin Law, one can engage in the sales of illegal fireworks but cannot launch them if they are not certified by the state to do so. A roadside fireworks stand cannot give an authorized certificate for this act.

The fireworks lobby is strong and has been able to fool our legislators into thinking the sales tax revenue of illegal fireworks is a good thing for the citizens of our state. One only needs to know the facts of injury and destruction caused by the purchasers of illegal fireworks to better understand that viewing fireworks launched by professionals is a safer and more enjoyable option.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) annually campaigns for fireworks safety by warning of the dangers associated with illegal fireworks.

No one wants their child blinded because they gave that child a sparkler that burns at 1,700 degrees. Nor do they want to spend July 5 in a hospital because a M-80 took the hand of the person who let go too late.
