Season ends for T-Birds

The Iola-Scandinavia varsity football team traveled to Bonduel to take on the Bears, on Friday October 31, for level two of the WIAA playoffs.

The Bears got on the board first when Hunter Berry ran the ball into the end zone. With a failed extra point attempt, Bonduel took a 6-0 lead in the game.

The T-Birds answered when Holdyn Mast found the end zone on a quarterback keeper. Tanner Krusa kicked the extra point giving the T-Birds a 7-6 lead.

With a little over 2:00 left in the first quarter, Hunter Berry scored again for the Bears on a 24 yard run. Ending the first quarter with Bonduel up 13-7.

Mast started out the second quarter with a short drive into the end zone. With the extra point attempt failing, the game was now tied at 13-13.

The Bear’s then took possession of the ball, moving it up the field. On 4th and 1 to go, Colton Dobratz threw the ball and Adam Cherek intercepted the pass on the one yard line.

The T-Birds were unable to gain much ground and eventually had to kick the ball away.

With 22.5 seconds left on the clock Hunter Berry ran the ball in again for the Bears. The extra point was blocked by the T-Birds, leaving the score at 19-13 to end the half.

The only score in the 3rd quarter of play came with 49 seconds left on the clock. Danny Tauchen ran the ball into the end zone, with the point after touchdown good; the Bears widened the gap to 26-13.

Mast threw an interception early in the 4th quarter of the game.

On the next play, Hunter Vander Linden ran 45 yards to the end zone; put the Bears up 33-13.

With 5:56 left in the 4th quarter, the T-Birds closed out the scoring for the game. The Bears took home a 33-20 victory.

The Bonduel Bears will travel to Amherst on Friday, November 7th, to take on the undefeated Falcons, in a 7pm matchup.
