Cook qualifies for state

Bulldog wrestler Scott Cook has qualified for the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison after advancing from a Division 1 Sectional in Green Bay on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Cook competed in the 132-pound weight class, placing second. The top two wrestlers in each weight class earned a trip to State.

Cook’s day began with an 18-3 technical fall win over Shannon Exferd of Green Bay Preble/East in the first round. He then earned a 2-1 win over Hortonville’s Nathan Lichtfuss in the second round. In the first place match, Cook suffered an 8-0 major decision loss to Brady Shulfer of Bay Port. Cook earned second place by rule after Lichtfuss wrestled back to the second place match.

At State, Cook will face Tomah sophomore Hunter Pierce in a first round match at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26. Cook, also a sophomore, owns a 34-5 record, while Pierce holds a 38-6 mark.

At 113 pounds, New London’s Maddie Ruckdashel was pinned in her first match by Bay Port’s Jarod Maes in a time of 3:35.

At 120 pounds, Garrett Ruckdashel won his first match by in 4:32 over Joey Le Sage of Pulaski, but lost his second match to Keenan Graef of West De Pere by an 8-0 major decision. In his attempt to wrestle back to the second place match, he lost a 5-0 decision to Max Bruss of De Pere.

At 126 pounds, Grant Oswald lost by pin in 2:34 to Bay Port’s Henry Prange.

At 138 pounds, Skylar Moderson lost his first match, 15-7, to Bay Port’s Marshall Jeppeson.

At 152 pounds, Gabe Oswald lost his first match by pin in 3:19 to Daniel Balch of Green Bay Preble/East.

At 160 pounds, Austin Wyngaard earned a 10-3 decision in his first match over Austin Lasee of Green Bay Preble/East. Wyngaard lost his second round match to Richy Sommers of Green Bay West/Southwest by pin in 5:34. His attempt to wrestle back started well, as he earned an 8-3 win over Forrest Yineman of Neenah. Unfortunately, Sommers lost in the championship match, giving him second place by rule. Wyngaard placed third.

At 195 pounds, Andrew Clauss lost by pin in 4:39 to Sean Summers of Ashwaubenon.

WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament

The State Tournament will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, through Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Session 1 begins with Division 1 preliminaries at 3 p.m., followed by quarterfinals at about 5:15 p.m. Division 2 and 3 preliminaries begin at 7:15 p.m.

Division 1 consolation matches begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27. Division 2 and 3 quarterfinals start at 11:15 a.m., followed by Division 1 consolation semifinals at about 1:45 p.m. Division 2 and 3 consolation semifinals begin at 2:45 p.m.

Division 1, 2 and 3 semifinals begin at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Division 1, 2 and 3 consolation wrestlebacks begin at 11 a.m., followed by matches for fifth place and third place.

The march of champions begins Saturday night at 6 p.m. for Divisions 1, 2 and 3.
