Waupaca wins Vic-Tree Invitational

Sixteen first-place finishes helped the Waupaca track team win its own invitational May 7.

The Comet boys and girls placed first and second, respectively, at the six-team Vic-Tree Invitational that also included teams from New London, Rosholt, Plainfield Tri-County, Wautoma and Stevens Point Pacelli. Waupaca also placed first with a combined team score of 338, followed by Rosholt (274), Wautoma (195), Pacelli (193.5). New London (176.5) and Tri-County (154).

Firsts for the Waupaca boys went to Nic Joch in the 200-meter dash (23.9); Mitchell Rotta in the 3,200-meter run (11:00.29); Christian Overman in the 110-meter hurdles (16.21); Brogan Kendziora in the 300-meter hurdles (43.16); Miguel Barraza in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches); Travis Heschke in the triple jump (40 feet, 4 1/2 inches); Blake Orr in the shot put (43 feet, 1 3/4 inches); the 800-meter relay team of Steven Canterbury, Kendziora, Heschke and Brandon Anderson (1:34.15); and the 1,600-meter relay team of Canterbury, Jake Piencikowski, Kendziora and Joch (3:32.5);

Firsts for the Comet girls went to Avrey Simonson in the long and triple jumps (16 feet, 2 inches and 33 feet, 7 1/2 inches); Tatiana Sotka in the 100- and 200-meter dashes (13.37, 26.92); Michelle Petkovsek in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run (1:01.68, 2:28.25); and the 1,600 relay team of Petkovsek, Alisa Blank, Simonson and Sotka (4:13.81).

The Comets will head to Appleton Xavier Saturday, May 16, for the Eastern Valley Conference meet, which also includes team from Berlin, Clintonville, Freedom, Fox Valley Lutheran, Little Chute, Ripon, Winneconne and Xavier. Events are scheduled to get under way at 10 a.m.

Waupaca will also host a Division 2 regional meet Tuesday, May 26, that will also include Amherst, Berlin, FVL, Nekoosa, Omro, Wautoma, Weyauwega-Fremont, Winneconne and Xavier.
