New London boys finish second

The Hortonville boys’ cross country team won its home meet while the New London boys’ team saw its highest finish of the season with a second-place finish at Lions Park in Greenville on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Hortonvile Polar Bears placed four boys in the top 10 to finish with 41 points, a 34-point lead over the New London Bulldogs (75). Junior Robbie Watling led the Bulldogs with a fourth-place finish and freshman Michael Jarvis led the Polar Bears with a fifth-place finish.

On the girls’ side, the Polar Bears took second (65), fueled by a second-place finish by junior Hannah Lohrenz and a seventh-place finish by junior Claire Van Beek.

The Clintonville Truckers fell behind Hortonville by one point (66) for a third-place finish. Kara Pyatskowit led the Truckers, finishing third.

“Our girls ran well against tough Division I teams,” Clintonville coach Jeff Crumbaugh said. We were only one point behind Hortonville. Our team ran a tough course on Tuesday and then we followed that with two tough training days, so their legs were not as fresh as they could [have] been. As the season progresses, their training load will drop and hopefully so will their times.”

Clintonville’s boys finished sixth (132) out of seven teams, and New London’s girls finished seventh (167) out of seven teams.
