Dowd, Theodore E. “Ted”

Theodore E. Dowd, age 90, passed away peacefully at Crossroads Care Center in Weyauwega, on Friday, February 5, 2016.

Ted was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on July 27, 1925, son of the late Lester and Lovica (Nussbaum) Dowd. Ted grew up in Amberg (Marinette County), where he graduated from high school. Ted joined the Army during WWII and served in the 101st Airbourne Division in Germany, along the Rhine River. He then went on to Stevens Point Teacher’s College earning a degree in Elementary Education. Ted was united in marriage to Jeanene Kelly, on December 21, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 3, 2001. Ted taught at schools in Viroqua, South Milwaukee, Vesper and Shawano. He also worked at the postal service as a rural letter carrier. He then married Betty Williams in New London, November 1, 2003. Ted and Betty liked going on mission trips and that is where they met.

Ted is survived by his wife, Betty; his four children: Roger (Sally) Dowd, Sheboygan; Cynthia (Lyle) Yonker, Tigerton; Brian (Carrie) Dowd, Kewaunee and Kevin (Carol) Dowd, Shawano; six grandchildren: Tonia (Jesse) Robinson, Nick (Stacy) Yonker, Kristine (Shaun) Spiegel, Brandon Yonker, Phil (Paula) Dowd and Sam (Kayla) Dowd; 12 great-grandchildren: Mariah, Mason, Meagan, Ally, Katie, Logan, Tayla, Owen, Jeanene, Cheyenee, Dacotah and Ella and three sisters, Darlene Mull, Delafield; Lois Pennington, Wausaukee and Jean Dohm, Manitowoc. Ted was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eleanor Riemer.

A funeral service for Ted will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at United Methodist Church in New London. Rev. Joyce Rich will be officiating. Visitation will be directly at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in the Town of Belle Plaine.
