Girls’ basketball tournament starts Feb. 23

Hortonville gets No. 1 seed in Division 2

Brackets are set for the WIAA State Girls’ Basketball Tournament.

Games in five divisions will get underway Tuesday, Feb. 23, with regional quarterfinals.

Regional finals are set for Saturday, Feb. 27; sectional finals will be played Saturday, March 5; and state quarterfinals in Division 1 and semifinals and finals in all five divisions are scheduled for Thursday to Saturday, March 10-12, at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Here’s a rundown of where area teams will open the tournament:

Division 2
Eau Claire North Sectional (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 3, at Wausau East): No. 10 Waupaca will head to No. 7 Antigo at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. No. 1 Hortonville and No. 4 New London have byes in the first round and will host games at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26. Hortonville will play No. 8 Medford or No. 9 Rhinelander, while New London will host No. 5 Lakeland.

Division 3
Green Bay Preble Sectional: (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 3, at Seymour): No. 7 Clintonville will host No. 10 Oconto Falls at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.

Division 4
Waupaca Sectional (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 3, at Green Bay Preble): No. 8 Iola-Scandinavia will host No. 9 Mishicot. No. 7 Weyauwega-Fremont will host No. 10 Rosholt and No. 13 Manawa will play at No. 4 Reedsville at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. No. 3 Amherst has a bye in the first round and will host No. 11 Brillion or No. 6 Gibraltar at 7 p.m. Feb. 26.

Division 5
Oconto Falls Sectional (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 3, at Waupaca): No. 7 Wild Rose will host No. 10 Marion and No. 15 Almond-Bancroft will travel to No. 2 Loyal at 7 p.m. Feb. 23.
