T-Birds get home tourney game

Regionals to begin Tuesday, March 1

Area boys’ basketball teams now know where they will head for the opening round of the WIAA state tournament.

Games in five divisions will get underway Tuesday, March 1, with regional quarterfinals.

Regional finals are set for Saturday, March 5; sectional finals will be played Saturday, March 12; and state quarterfinals in Division 1 and semifinals and finals in all five divisions are scheduled for Thursday to Saturday, March 17-19, at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Here’s a rundown of where area teams will open the tournament:

Division 2
Stevens Point Sectional (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 10, at Wausau East): No. 11 Waupaca will play at No. 6 Antigo. No. 10 New London will head to No. 7 Shawano. Top-seeded Hortonville has a bye and will host No. 8 Medford or No. 9 Merrill Friday, March 4.

Division 3
Kaukauna Sectional: (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 10, at Bay Port): No. 10 Clintonville will play at No. 7 Bonduel.

Division 4
Appleton East Sectional (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 10, at Green Bay Southwest): No. 5 Iola-Scandinavia will host No. 12 Gibraltar. No. 13 Manawa will play at No. 4 Shiocton. No. 11 Weyauwega-Fremont will travel to No. 6 Kewaunee. Top-seeded Amherst has a bye in the first round and will host No. 8 Rosholt or No. 9 Mishicot March 4.

Division 5
D.C. Everest Sectional (sectional semifinal Thursday, March 10, at Stevens Point): No. 3 Almond-Bancroft will host No. 14 Bowler. No .12 Marion will play at No. 5 Loyal. No. 7 Wild Rose will host No. 10 Northland Lutheran.
