Clintonville admin’s contract amended

Termination clause added to agreement with Kell

By Bert Lehman

Termination language has been added to the contract of Clintonville City Administrator Chuck Kell.

Kell’s contract was amended at a special Clintonville City Council meeting Feb. 24. It was discussed in closed session.

In a press release prepared by Kell and released on Tuesday, March 1, Kell stated that at its previous meeting the council had asked him to “prepare a contract amendment for his services as city administrator that would guarantee as much as possible that Kell would continue working for the city until June 30, 2017 or later into the year including helping the city with the hiring of a new full-time city administrator that would be brought on board during the school break for the summer of 2017.”

As part of the amendment to Kell’s contract, the city council is required to “provide Kell with six months written notice of termination of his contract and includes a termination settlement provision that requires the city to compensate him at $275 per calendar day for every calendar day that Kell’s employment with the City is terminated before June 30, 2017.”

In the press release, Kell said he is satisfied with the working relationship that has developed with the city council and city staff, as well as the progress made regarding issues pertaining the city.

“To keep this progress and positive momentum moving forward I have personally committed to continue leading the city of Clintonville and I proposed a contract that wouldn’t increase the cost of the City going forward as long as they kept me in the city administrator position until a mutually agreeable sunset date in the future,” Kell said in the press release.
