Akey strikes out eight batters

Friday the 13th turned out to be an unlucky day for the West De Pere softball team.
The Phantoms dropped a 14-1 nonconference decision to Weyauwega-Fremont May 13 in Weyauwega.
A pair of big innings for the Indians turned out to be the difference in the game. The Indians took a 1-0 lead into the second inning and added to their lead with a six-run second.
Neither team scored again until the Indians came up with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Phantoms avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Kiley Akey struck out eight batters while picking up the win on the mound. The Indians also had 11 hits.
W-F will return to Central Wisconsin-8 Conference play at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 16, in Bonduel.
