A 22-year-old man convicted last year for breaking into a Manawa restaurant is now accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.
Darin M. Poppy, New London, is charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child.
The girl is also the alleged victim in the child sex trafficking case against Jeremiah B. Holbach, 33, Manawa.
While police were investigating her accusations against Holbach, the girl told them that Poppy was one of his friends with whom she was forced to spend time.
She said Poppy touched her inappropriately several times when she was made to go out with him.
According to the criminal complaint, Poppy denied that anything happened between him and the girl. He told investigators that he knew the girl and that they were friends.
“Darin admitted he asked (the girl) to have sex with him and she said no. Darin stated that question just popped out of his mouth and he wasn’t thinking,” the complaint says.
Poppy faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child.
