Booster Club to honor Sell

Event planned for Manawa’s former coach

By Holly Neumann

The Manawa Booster Club will honor Bob Sell Saturday, June 25, for the years he has dedicated to Manawa’s football program.

“Bob Sell has dedicated over 20 years of his life to Manawa football and he has been a huge part of my life,” said Garret Griffin, who is helping to organize the event. “We were fortunate enough to start playing football at the age of 9 in a program with some of the best coaching around and our success showed that. The time and money Bob spent on Manawa football deserves more than just a banquet. This is the least we can do.”

Sell stepped down as Manawa’s varsity football coach following the 2015 season and also spent several years with the Manawa Cowboys youth program.

Sell was more the just a football coach, as he truly cared about every aspect of the lives of all his players, according to Griffin.

“A common theme in many of his speeches involved getting it done in the classroom as well as getting it done on the football field,” he said. “He also preached to us that we needed to be everyone’s friend off the field as well as listen to our parents, which I’m sure all of our parents appreciated.”

The event, Thanks for the Memories, Bob Sell: Celebrating a Life of Football, will be held at Bear Lake Resort & Campground.

A dinner will take place at 6 p.m., followed by a program at 7 p.m. and a DJ at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at First State Bank or Premier Bank in Manawa or by contacting Mary Griffin at 920-538-3940.

Players, cheerleaders, parents and coaches under Sell’s programs are invited to attend to share stories. Anyone interested in sharing is asked to contact Garret Griffin at [email protected] or 920-538-5737.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Manawa Booster Club and be used to purchase equipment and cover various expenses incurred by all Manawa athletic programs.
