Railroad topic of program

Railroad historian and author John Gruber will present “Green Bay and Western Through Photographs” at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Waupaca Train Depot.

Refreshments will be served.

Gruber photographed the Green Bay and Western Railroad in its final weeks in 1993 and was the only photographer to record the last train in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Green Bay and Western reached Waupaca through the Waupaca-Green Bay Railway in 1907.

The branch became Green Bay and Western in 1922 and was abandoned in 1947.

Gruber’s program will focus on both the railroad’s history in Waupaca but also its freight service throughout central Wisconsin.

The historic depot is located at 525 Oak St.
