Mykisen, Doris Elizabeth (Michels)

Doris Elizabeth (Michels) Mykisen was born in Great Falls, MT to Nicholas and Elizabeth (Mueller) Michels on August 4, 1925.

On her first birthday, the family moved to Chicago to live. Doris attended parochial elementary and secondary school in Palatine, IL graduating in 1943. Doris worked at the Singer Sewing Company in downtown Chicago.

On May 18, 1946, Doris married Stanley Jerome Mykisen in Chicago, IL. Doris and Stanley lived in Chicago, IL, southern Illinois, and eventually moved to Almond, WI in 1955. Doris was a devote catholic and member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Almond and later St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainfield. Doris was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Golden Needle Quilters Guild of Almond. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crafts, and quilting.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Stanley in 1989; daughter, Sharon in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Elizabeth; one sister, Marian (age 3 yr), and four brothers, Raymond, Richard, Howard, and Clarence.

Doris is survived by her seven children: Gregory (Donna) Mykisen, Bancroft, WI; Kenneth (Nancy) Mykisen, Bancroft, WI; Martin (Renee) Mykisen, Waupaca, WI; James (Kathy) Mykisen, Bancroft, WI; Sandra (Mark) Petrusky, Plainfield, WI; Janis (Melvin) Gimbel, Ree Heights, SD and Gene (Terri) Mykisen, Marion, WI. Doris is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainfield, WI. Father Andrew Kurz will preside. A visitation will be held on Friday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Hope Cemetery in the Town of Belmont, WI. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.
