Season winding down for runners

Conference meets next on schedule

Four area cross country teams will compete in upcoming conference meets.

Iola-Scandinavia will host the Central Wisconsin Conference meet Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Iola Winter Sports Club complex. Manawa and Weyauwega-Fremont will also compete in the meet, which starts at 4 p.m., along with teams from Amherst, Bonduel, Gresham/Bowler, Marion, Menominee Indian, Pacelli, Pittsville, Rosholt, Shiocton and Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Meanwhile, Waupaca will head to Wander Springs Golf Course in Greenleaf Saturday, Oct. 14, for the North Eastern Conference meet, which starts at noon.

Teams from Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Little Chute, Luxemburg-Casco, Marinette, Oconto Falls and Wrightstown will also compete.

WIAA cross country sectionals in divisions 1-3 are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20-21.

Waupaca will host a Division 2 sectional Oct. 21, with the girls’ race set for 11 a.m. and the boys’ race to follow at 11:45 a.m.

Clintonville, Freedom, Lakeland, Marinette, Medford, Mosinee, New London, Northland Pines, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Rhinelander, Seymour, Shawano and Tomahawk will also compete.

Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa and Weyauwega-Fremont will join Amherst, Bonduel, Coleman, Crivitz, Gillett, Gresham/Bowler, Laconia, Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, Markesan, Marion, Menominee Indian, Oconto, Pardeeville, Princeton/Green Lake, St. Mary Catholic, Westfield and Wolf River Lutheran Oct. 21 at the Westfield Sectional. The girls’ race will be held at noon, with the boys to follow at 1 p.m.
