Rec center needs roof repairs

City to seek cost estimates

By Bert Lehman

Clintonville’s recreation center, which is currently used only for storage, has a leaking roof.

Parks and Recreation Director Justin McAuly informed the parks and recreation committee about the roof leak at its Jan. 30 meeting. The leak is in a section of the pitched roof at the front of the rec center building.

McAuly said the leak was discovered when a Clintonville Parks and Recreation Department employee was on the roof working on something else and his foot almost went through the roof.

When inspected, McAuly said it is easy to see the water damage the leak has caused.

“There is a lot of rotting going on there,” McAuly said. “I really don’t know what the extent is.”

McAuly said he has noticed water stains on the inside walls as well.

To repair the roof, McAuly said the city would probably have to hire a contractor. He added that he did not have an estimate as to how much it would cost to repair the roof.

McAuly said he wasn’t sure if there are other areas of the roof that need to be repaired.

Parks and recreation committee member Jim Supanich recommended the Parks and Recreation Department inspect the entire roof to see if there are any other bad spots.

Supanich also recommended that a tarp be placed over the area of the roof where the leak is located.

McAuly informed the committee that there is only $293 in the building and maintenance account for the rec center.

The committee will discuss the issue again at its February meeting. Prior to that meeting, McAuly will obtain estimates as to what the repairs will cost.
