Tucker, Arnold R. “Arnie” III

Arnold R. “Arnie” Tucker, III passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 19, 2018 in Neenah, WI after a courageous battle with cancer and with his daughter Sarah by his side.

He was born in Binghamton, NY on October 22, 1949 to Arnold R. Tucker Jr., and Shirley E. Tucker. He graduated from Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH in 1967, then from Keene State College in Keene, NH in 1971 with a Bachelor’s in History. Arnie then entered the Air Force in 1971 and served as an officer in the 90th Strategic Missile Wing at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. After his tour of duty, Arnie settled in Wisconsin and spent the next three decades of his life as a journalist and newspaper editor in Waupaca, WI; Brillion, WI; Torrington, WY, and finally Scotts Bluff, NE where the Gering Star-Herald received numerous awards under his leadership. Along the way he earned a Master’s degree in Communications at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point where his thesis concerning the Oneida Nation received special recognition from the University. Following his career in journalism, Arnie worked as a motor coach driver for Kobussen Buses, Ltd, and as a substitute teacher in Hilbert, WI and throughout the Fox Valley area. At the time of his passing, he was working part-time at Zebra Technologies Corporation in Appleton, WI.

Arnie is survived by his sons, Brian Tucker and Joseph Tucker; daughter, Sarah Mickelson; aunt, Sandra Savage; brother, Jonathan Tucker; and sister, Joanne Ott; and their families. Arnie’s extended family included longtime friend Tina McMains and family of Kaukauna, WI who gave Arnie strength and spiritual comfort throughout his struggle with cancer.
