I-S remains undefeated

Thunderbirds take down Chargers

The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds improved their record to 4-0 by defeating the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers 49-6 Friday, Sept. 7 in Scandinavia.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood was the first to score, when Mike Gibson ran 35 yards for the only Charger touchdown of the night, leaving the score at 6-0.

Bryce Huettner answered with a couple of touchdowns of his own, scoring on 9 and 22 yard runs. With Connor Kurki kicking the extra point each time, the T-Birds to take a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Huettner, did not slow down in the second quarter, running the ball 75 yards for another T-Bird touchdown, followed by Kurki scoring a touchdown of his own.

Kurki later connected with Will Cady on a 38 yard pass, for the final score of the half, putting the T-Birds up to 35-6.

Midway though the third quarter Kurki once again found the end zone on an 18-yard run and Alex Sharp scored the 2 point conversion, extending the T-Birds lead to 43-6.

Carter Snyder set up the next scoring drive for the T-Birds when he blocked a W-B punt allowing I-S to recover the ball on the 40 yard line. Huettner later scored the final touchdown of the game, on a 3-yard run, giving the T-Birds the 49-6 victory.

Iola-Scandinavia had 55 yards in the air and another 426 on the ground, for a total of 481 yards.

Leading the way was Huettner who carried the ball 15 times for 260 yards and four touchdowns.

Kurki completed 2 of 4 passes for 55 yards and one touchdown. He also ran the ball seven times for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

The T-Birds will travel to Bonduel (3-3) on Friday, Sept. 14, to take on the Bears.
