Willows going up in Iola

Facility includes Memory Care Unit

By Holly Neumann

Construction is underway for The Willows, a new facility at Iola Living Assistance.
The 21,245-square-foot assisted living community will feature 24 apartments, including an eight-bed secured Memory Care Unit.

“Everything is coming along quite well,” said Nicole Barrett, CEO and administrator. “The rain has gotten us a little behind schedule, but there have been no other hiccups besides that.”

According to Barrett, the addition will complete ILA’s continuum of care.

“Right now we don’t have that,” she said. “Currently, when assistance is needed for daily living, community members can move to Living Oaks. But when someone needs more care than what Living Oaks can provide, they may have to move out of the community. We were missing that piece of the continuum of care. Now, residents will be able remain in the community they live in, and that is a great thing for Iola.”

Barrett noted there is a demand for this type of care.

“We have a lengthy wait list already,” she said. “I encourage

anyone needing care to get on our waiting list now. Or come in a take a tour and we can answer any of the questions that you have. We can be reached at 715-445-2412.”

This new facility will also bring several new jobs to the area.

“We are looking for cooks, patient care attendants, activity aid, one full-time maintenance position and someone part time for housekeeping,” she said. “We would like people who have had some previous experience at this type of facility.”

The Willows is also working on its capital campaign.

“The Krause Foundation has already pledged $500,000, and we are now looking for community support to help reach our fundraising goal of $1 million,” Barrett said. “Mailing lists have been sent to our vendors. I have attended area meetings and sent mailings to past residents. The biggest fundraiser will be our donor dinner in the spring at the new facility.”

Those who want to donate to the new facility may do so by mailing donations to: Iola Living Assistance, Attn. The Willows Capital Campaign, 185 S. Chet Krause Drive, Iola, WI 54945.
The Willows is scheduled to open in next spring.
