The Clintonville Truckers went on the road and beat Fox Valley Lutheran 34-27 on Friday, Feb. 8.
Clintonville’s Erin Viergutz came a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Truckers snapped a six-game losing streak, and Viergutz said the team was excited about the win.
“Everybody was cheering in the locker room, and it just feels really good,” Viergutz said.
Clintonville head coach Nick Yaeger said he was proud of the way his team played defensively.
“From a defensive standpoint, this was easily our best game of the year,” Yaeger said. “I thought the girls played a great game from tip to the last buzzer. We haven’t done that a lot last year. We played FVL earlier this year and gave up a nine-point lead at halftime. I’m glad that didn’t happen this time around when we had a five-point lead at the half. We protected the ball more on offense and played great team defense.”
Viergutz said rebounding was a key to the Truckers’ win, especially after halftime.
“We didn’t do so well in the first half but did well in the second half,” Viergutz said. “I think that was a big factor.”
Elly Arndt added eight points with three rebounds, three assists and two steals for Clintonville.
“I’m very proud of the girls, and I hope this momentum keeps building as we get closer to playoff time,” Yaeger said.
