Waupaca group sets $80,000 goal

Community Chest receives donation

Bank First recently presented a $4,400 donation to Waupaca Community Chest Inc. for its annual fund drive.

This year, Waupaca Community Chest has a fundraising goal of $80,000.

Formerly known as the Waupaca Area United Way, the organization returned to its roots with its 2018 campaign.

Organized in 1958, the mission of the Waupaca Community Chest is “to help our local organizations help our residents.”

In 2018, the organization received more than $76,000 in funding requests from local organizations.

However, it was only able to fund about $25,000 in requests based on the amount raised in its campaign.

The amount was down from the $33,300 it was able to fund in 2017.

Organizations receiving funds last year were the Agape Help Center, American Red Cross, Big Brothers/Sisters, local Boy Scout troops, the Bread Basket, Catholic Charities, Coffee and Crafts Connections, Girl Scouts, Miracle Tree, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Volunteers of ThedaCare/Waupaca, Waupaca Community Garden, Waupaca County program for those with disabilities, Waupaca County Crimestoppers, Waupaca County Treatment Court, Waupaca Senior Center and Waupaca Thrift Store.

The funding requests from the Agape Help Center and Coffee and Crafts Connections were new ones in 2018.

The mailing for this year’s fund drive went out to area residents late last year.

People may also visit waupacacommunitychest.com to make donations online now and throughout the year.

The organization’s Allocation Committee will meet this spring to recommend how the funds will be distributed, based on the amount raised.

The funds will then be dispersed to local organizations.
