Suspect charged with ID theft

A woman with three pending felony cases is in jail on a $2,500 cash bond.

Sholawna M. Gunter, 38, Waupaca, is charged with identity theft, bank card fraud and misdemeanor theft for a November 2018 incident.

She is also charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent for a Feb. 15 incident.

And Gunter is charged with felony bail jumping for a Feb. 18 incident.

On Nov. 23, 2018, Waupaca Police Officer Tom Grant spoke with a man who reported $770 had been taken from his checking account on July 12, 2018.

According to the criminal complaint, Gunter set up an account with Western Union by using the man’s debit card information.

She then allegedly used Western Union to wire money from the man’s bank account to Waupaca Mobil Travel Center, where a friend picked up the transfer.

On Feb. 15, 2019, Waupaca County Deputy Matt Whitaker spoke with Gunter’s mother, who accused Gunter of taking her car and driving it to Green Bay without permission.

Green Bay police found Gunter and the car at a motel and arrested her.

Gunter was released from custody on a $2,000 signature bond with the condition that she have no contact with her mother or go to her mother’s home in the town of Dayton.

Gunter was accused of going to her mother’s home on Feb. 18.

She is now being held on a $2,500 cash bond.
