By Scott Bellile

Heart and Vascular Institute of Wisconsin, a new practice comprised of former ThedaCare cardiovascular team members, will open a regional office in New London.

Located in the former Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology office at 1370 N. Shawano St., the local office will open by mid- to late-April.

Heart and Vascular Institute of Wisconsin is headquartered in Grand Chute and opened there on April 1.

Two cardiologists who used to work for ThedaCare Physicians-New London, Drs. Carrie Chapman and William Fletcher, will serve as the primary physicians at New London’s regional office.

The location will be open one day per week, and each cardiologist will switch off who staffs it.

“We’ve always been committed to trying to keep patients close to home,” Chapman said.

The pair are among 15 physicians who left ThedaCare to return to working in a smaller independent setting.

“Our goals by going back into independent really are for better patient care, better cost and hopefully better access, too,” Chapman said.

Chapman said the practice has state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment that is among Wisconsin’s best technology in terms of image quality, safety and the reduced time to perform a CT scan.

Chapman and Fletcher will also perform patient consultations for people hospitalized at ThedaCare Medical Center-New London. Hospital patients must ask for her or Fletcher by name, otherwise ThedaCare will assign an in-house physician, Chapman said.

According to a news release, Heart and Vascular Institute of Wisconsin specializes in “all areas of heart and vascular disease, specifically coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, hypertension, peripheral arterial disease and prevention.”

“This group has been in the Valley and the outlying communities for 50 years. It is absolutely not a startup company,” Chapman said. “It is a new face, a new, clean building that we just renovated and got into, but the experience is unlike any cardiology group I think you can get in Wisconsin. All of our physicians I will tell you come from very good training, backgrounds: Mayo Clinic, Michigan, UW-Madison.”

Patients can schedule an appointment by calling 920-886-9380 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Heart and Vascular Institute of Wisconsin will accept any insurance plan.

The practice is also opening regional offices in Waupaca, Shawano, Chilton, Keshena, Oshkosh and Ripon.
