Teen accused of stealing dirty diapers

Suspect charged with sex offenses in two other counties

Michael Conto, 18, Marion, was charged in Waupaca County with felony bail jumping and misdemeanor theft.

On Oct. 8, 2018, Conto was convicted in Shawano County of misdemeanor sexual contact with a child and placed on one year of probation.

Conditions of his probation included that he have no unsupervised contact with juveniles.

On Jan. 4, Conto was charged in Portage County with first-degree sexual assault of a child, felony threats to injure, exposing genitals to a child, exposing a child to harmful materials.

He was released from custody on July 12, after posting a $5,000 cash bond.

On Aug. 1, Marion police officers Eric Krause and Kent Wilson and Waupaca County Deputy Kyle Wiskirchen met with a husband and wife who said Conto went to their home in the town of Dupont while they were away.

They have several children. The oldest is a 15-year-old boy.

One of the children called the parents and said Conto came over and stole four to five dirty diapers from a waste basket in the bathroom.

According to the criminal complaint, the parents confronted Conto prior to contacting the police.

They were aware Marion police had posted a sex offender notice about Conto on Facebook on July 19.

The parents had known Conto since he was a young child, but they no longer wanted him around their children.

Conto initially denied taking the diapers.

He later allegedly told the parents he took the diapers to sell to a friend for sexual purposes.

When Wiskirchen questioned him about the diapers, Conto reportedly said he had a friend he met through social media who would stop by his house and buy the diapers.

Conto said he had no way to contact his friend and did not know his name, the complaint says.

As conditions for Conto’s release, Waupaca County Judge Raymond Huber set a $10,000 cash bond or a $25,000 signature bond co-signed by Conto’s mother.

The mother must also sign a separate statement acknowledging she understands all the conditions of the bond and that if she fails to enforce them, she could be held personally liable.

Conditions include that Conto have no nude photos, no contact with anyone under the age of 18 and no access to computers, cellphones or social media.

Conto remained in custody as of Tuesday, Aug. 6.
