A promising start turned into a disappointing finish for Waupaca at the Class A American Legion State Baseball Championship in Westby.

Waupaca opened the scoring with a run in the top of the fifth inning and added two more in the seventh.

Brady Johnson scattered four hits to get the complete-game win. Waupaca had seven hits.

Waupun went on to win its second straight state championship and handed Waupaca its first loss July 27.

Davis Levine and Justin Vaughn had run-scoring doubles July 28 that gave Waupaca a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.

However, Medford answered with four runs in the sixth.
